Unlocking the Power of your Thoughts |
People like Joe Dispenza and organizations like the HeartMath Institute and the Institute of Noetic Sciences, have been working on the same thing, only they use science more extensively to measure and document this phenomenon in action. Before going into the technology behind "miraculous" events like spontaneous healing, synchronicities, manifesting things, it is important to wrap your head around several vital concepts.
To provide you with an organized framework of understanding, let's tackle these concepts using the 7 Hermetic Principles.
1. The Principle of Mentalism
"The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental."[4]
All is mind. Everything we experience as real, always and only happens mentally in our mind. How do we know anything exists? We see it with our eyes, or hear it with our ears, or smell it with our nose, or taste it in our mouth, or feel it in our body. Imagine taking away each of the senses we have. Now how would we experience reality around us?
When dreaming, we experience things exactly as we do when we are awake and we are rarely aware that we are dreaming. How can we tell reality apart from our dreams? Are dreams real then? We are so used to thinking that things happen out there that we almost never realize that we experience everything solely in our minds. The amazing thing is that our body cannot distinguish the difference between a thought (dreams or imagination) and an actual experience. If we start thinking about losing our job and being homeless, your body will begin to produce cortisol (the stress hormone), our breathing will become shallow and we may begin to sweat, even if at that exact moment we are sitting in our living room with our feet up, holding a glass of iced tea. Likewise, if we imagine being intimate with someone whowe are really attracted to, our body will begin to experience arousal even if we are lying alone on our bed. If an athlete mentally rehearses a race in his mind, all his neurons and muscles will fire as if he is actually running that race, even if he is laid back in a recliner.
Realize what is happening here. The athlete who does mental rehearsals is in effect memorizing how to win a race before he even runs it. The man who worries about losing a job is memorizing what a dreadful life is like. What we do in our minds habitually wire certain automatic responses in our bodies. Over time, it becomes our subconscious programs that run in the background without our awareness. Mental rehearsals actually improve an athlete's physical performance by codifying in the body the perfect execution of an athletic process. So can you guess what happens in your body when you do mental rehearsals of worst case scenarios in your life? And it doesn't matter at all what is happening out there. How you think about what's happening out there is ultimately what determines how your body will respond.
2. The Principle of Correspondence
"As above, so below; as below, so above.” [...] This principle embodies the truth that there is always a correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of being and life.[5]
As above, so below. As within, so without. There is a correspondence between the microcosm (smaller part of a whole) the macrocosm (the whole made up of its smaller parts). As with the atoms, that are made of parts rotating around its center, organisms are made of cells, organisms make up groups, groups make up countries, countries make up the planets, planets make up the solar system and so forth. What happens with the little happens with the large. Everything is reflected in everything else. We are all connected with everything and everyone else. Everything that happens creates a ripple effect throughout the entire system. Likewise all information in the universe is available within the tiniest particle.
We can use this principle as a guidance system. Look at everything in your life. You will find that it is always a match with what's happening within. The world mirrors to us exactly what is going on with us emotionally and mentally. A great way to find out what we cannot forgive in ourselves, is to review what we cannot forgive in others. Look at the people you despise (or dislike) and you will find that what you hate (or judge harshly) in others is something you are struggling with yourself.
We are responsible for everything that shows up in our field and when we accept that, we can begin to change things from within. We can start with our thoughts. As mentioned earlier, we want to be mindful of what we think because that will determine the body's experience. It is with our body that we affect our physical world. The words we express, the actions we take, a smile, an aggressive gesture and pretty much anything we do affects what is out there and what eventually shows up for us in our world. Ultimately, the seed of all our actions and reactions lie in either a thought we are having at the moment or a programmed response hardwired into our brain.
3. The Principle of Vibration
"Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates."[6]
Everything is vibration because everything is energy. Material things look solid to us. We can feel it resist our touch and it seems to block us from moving through it quite unlike empty space in which we can move through very easily. But what scientists have discovered is, if we magnify matter to view it at the atomic level we find there is so much space between the parts of the individual atom. And even the parts of the atom are not solid but appear to be vibrating strings of energy.
We can change the world in subtle ways through the energy frequency we generate. Every thought and emotion carries with it a frequency that likewise determines what can show up for us in the material.
The things we see as material have material density. Once something exists on a material plane it is harder to change or manipulate. Everything else exists as waves of possibility in a field of energy (quantum field). This field is where magic happens. Both our heart and our brain each have an electromagnetic field that interacts with the quantum field. When the frequency of the heart and the brain are coherent (vibrating in unison at the same frequency) this is when we are able to sway the field in our favor. It is in this state, (heart-brain coherence) that the body can rapidly heal itself and influence other people and the environment on an energetic level. Everything that is in material form was first created in its energetic state. Through intention, attention and emotion, we collapse the waves of possibility into solid matter.
4. The Principle of Polarity
"Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled."[7]
This is a very tricky principle, which often has us fighting with our own reflection. Concepts like good and evil, dark and light, hot and cold are polar opposites of the same thing if you are able view it from a higher perspective. Good can come from evil and evil can come from good. The greatest act of heroism and sacrifice is often inspired by the most evil act of oppression. One is only provoked into his utmost daring when he is threatened with a most tragic loss. And a man can commit a most heinous crime because of love.
When we wish that we never have to suffer from the loss of a beloved, we don't realize that our suffering is great only because the relationship we had was profoundly wonderful. All beautiful relationships carry with it the potential pain of loss. You cannot have one without the other.
This principle reveals a truth that hides in plain sight. That which we push away the hardest holds to its bosom that which we long for the most. To reach our most cherished dream we must surrender to lessons our most terrifying nightmare.
5. The Principle of Rhythm
"Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates."[8]
All things move in rhythmic cycles. The breath has an in cycle and an out cycle. The earth has rotation (day/ night), revolution (seasonal), and precession cycles. The moon follows its own rhythm which affects the tides and our moods. Our bodies follow a circadian rhythm which controls our sleeping, waking, and digestive cycles. Each cycle has inherent energies embedded in them. Working within cycles allows us to harness the natural flow of energy within that cycle while disrupting them in midstream requires us to expend much of our energy.
Once a cycle has started it is best to simply flow with it until it reaches its natural resting point. This is sometimes called the void or zero-point or liminal space. This is where magic can be most potent. When there are things we want to change in our life, we can use this point to catapult us in a new direction. Natural cycles tend to have more thrust than man made ones.
When in a particularly bad mood, you can use the breath cycle to shift your emotional state. Take a few very deep and deliberate breaths, then hold it right before or right after the inhale. Mark that as the shifting point. Then observe your mood change as you take the next breath cycle. You never have to worry about having a bad day, because there is always a reset button you can use right before or right after sleep.
You can use any of the cycles for this. Use the energies of circadian, lunar, astrological, seasonal cycles to propel you through any intended change. Find the zero point where you can clear out all the stale energy and infuse the new cycle with fresh vitality.
6. The Principle of Cause and Effect
"Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to law; chance is but a name for law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law."[9]
Everything that happened in your life is bound by a universal law. Every action has an inevitable consequence. It is inextricably bound to its effect. There is no escaping the law.
So many people are caught in the trap of knowing with unfaltering precision the outcome of some event. Some would scream at their kids, "Stop that. You're going to fall and break your leg." Some would say "I never win at raffles." or "Something bad always happens to my stomach when I eat shrimp." Then when it happens they say, "I knew it!" or "I told you so!". Without realizing it they are caught in the loop of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Your thoughts in themselves carry a particular frequency. If it remains a thought it will have a subtle effect in the field. If we speak of it out loud it carries more force. When other people hear it, that changes the field even more powerfully because now the people who heard what you said are recreating your thoughts in their head. That convinces the speaker beyond any doubt that they can predict exactly what will happen.
What they don't understand is that they can predict the exact opposite thing with the same unwavering conviction and also be right. So there are some people who expect the very worst outcome and are always right and some people who expect the best outcome and are also always right. So which would you rather be right about? Henry Ford said, “Think you can, think you can't; either way you'll be right.” We also must always remember to be mindful of what we say and who we say it to. Other people's minds are very fertile grounds as well but we cannot control what they create. If we are careless about our open verbal declarations, we may unwittingly create through others, resistance or distortions to our own creations.
What we think, say and feel, is the foundation of our reality. If we don't like what is in our reality then we should backtrack to see what we thought, said and felt to create it and make the necessary adjustments.
7. The Principle of Gender
"Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles; gender manifests on all planes."[10]
Everything inherently has a male and a female side. Our brain has a feminine (right) and masculine (left) side. Every yin has a yang. Matter has antimatter.
In everything, there is a force and a counterforce to balance it out. Even physics recognizes that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Everything will seek equilibrium. When we push hard against something, it will always push back as hard. Conversely, if we want something powerful in our lives to disappear, the fastest way to get rid of it is to withdraw all our focus and attention from it. Oftentimes, what gives so much power to the things we loathe is our own stubborn resistance to it. Everything in our life will find its balance. We should take care that we are not causing the imbalance.
Using the Principles in the Creative Process
Now we finally get to integrate all these principles into our creative process.
Now pay attention to your emotions while you imagine the thing. Do you feel good? Are you excited? Happy? If you are, that's great. You basically want to get your brain and heart at their highest frequencies to get the best result. You can use a recording of binaural beats to entrain your brain to the desired frequency. To entrain the heart, you can do a Metta Bhavana (loving kindness) meditation to get yourself in the proper heart space. You can find many available online. Ideally you want your heart and brain in sync at the same time as you are rehearsing what it's like to have what you desire. Whether it is healing from a serious disease, finding a life partner, landing a dream job or anything else you might fancy.
You want to focus all your attention and energy internally; to disengage from the outside world and all identification with it. Let go of what has been and replace it with a memory of your desired future. Clear it of any snags from the past that has kept it away from you. The present moment is the only portal to all possible futures. What you create within will be mirrored outside.
If you're really serious about this you can use a biofeedback device available online that lets you know your current brain and/ or heart frequency and if you have achieved your frequency goals.

Think of your mind as a transmitter (the masculine push) and your heart as a receiver (the feminine pull) working in harmony. When their frequencies are resonant, together they create a bigger wave. If their frequencies are dissonant they will cancel each other out.
Practice this first thing in the morning or right before you go to bed. Until it shows up for you. Use the cycles in your work. Use the breath, as this is a very short cycle which you can continually reset within a short span of time. Then ride the cycle through the shift you are wanting to make.
After you are done rehearsing. Go on with your day. Drop all worry or doubt that it might not happen. Do not keep trying to guess or map out in your mind how it's going to happen for you. By doing this, you are creating more complications and conditions that will only slow down the process.
Stay open to anything that shows up for you. What might seem like a great setback or a major disappointment might really carry with it, a key to getting what you want. Delays or sudden changes in schedules may really just be aligning you with the perfect timing at which moment all the necessary segments converge at a single point to deliver exactly what you want. A person whom you can't stand, might actually be the person who will set you up with the right contacts. You will never know, unless you set aside your biases and preconceived notions.

Just know in your heart that the simplest and most direct path to precisely what you want exists as a wave of possibility in the field, and even if you can't see it or don't know what it will take to happen, it can and will happen. As long as you put it out there, things will begin to align accurately until your desire finds you. Leave a space for magic to happen and trust that you are supported.
Scientific studies by Dr. Dispenza, the HeartMath Institute and several other groups have shown that a very important part of the "creation" process discussed here is the state of heart-brain coherence. It has been observed repeatedly that it is in this measured state where individuals (wired to biofeedback devices) are able to create profound changes in their lives. Of course, what is most immediately observable during the sessions is the remarkable changes in the body which include clearing of allergies and other physical symptoms of chronic diseases. Participants who are monitored closely after the sessions report other amazing changes as their lives progress. This is only what happens on an individual level. In a future post we will look at what happens when groups of people in a coherent state converge in a single place at the same time.
